Carers Assessment

As a carer you will be entitled to an assessment regardless of the amount or type of care you provide, your financial means or your level of need for support. You can have an assessment whether or not the person you care for has had a community social care needs assessment.
If you share caring responsibilities with another person, or more than one person, including a child under 18, you can each have a carers' assessment. You don't have to live with the person you are looking after or be caring full-time to have a carers' assessment. You may be juggling work and care and this is having a big impact on your life.
The Care Act introduced national rules for deciding who is eligible for necessary care and support. You may meet the eligibility criteria if there is likely to be a significant impact on your well-being as a result of you caring for another person. If you answer yes to the questions below, then you may have eligible needs:
• Are your needs the result of you providing necessary care?
• Does your caring role have an affect on you?
• Is there, or is there likely to be, a significant impact on your well-being?
